Obituary of Elizabeth H. Benke

Elizabeth H. "Betty" Benke, 85, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2005 at St. Luke�(TM)s Hospital, Bethlehem, PA. Born on March 8, 1920, in Easton, PA, she was the daughter of the late C. Walton and Jannette Blazier Hill. Betty and her husband, Paul O. Benke, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on February 14. Betty had lived in Belvidere her entire life, graduating from Belvidere High School in 1938. She was an active member of Belvidere United Methodist Church for 71 years. She was a member for 60 years of the Order of the Eastern Star, Warren Chapter #13, Belvidere. Mrs. Benke had been a production worker for the former IMCO, Belvidere, NJ before retiring. Previously she had worked as a seamer for the former Hardwick Hosiery Mill, also of Belvidere. Betty was a devoted and generous wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She also enjoyed bowling with the Leisure Ladies Bowling League at the Bel-Pike Lanes, cooking and going on ocean cruises with her husband. In addition to her husband Paul, she is survived by a son Arthur C. and his wife Susan of Tuscaloosa, AL; a daughter, Gayle Ackerman of Wind Gap, PA; two granddaughters, Meredith Benke of Tuscaloosa, AL and Michele Ackerman of Washington, NJ; two grandsons, Erik Benke of Tuscaloosa, AL and Scott Ackerman of Keasby, NJ.
