Obituary of Alice Joan Wilson

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alice “Joannie” Wilson, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025 with her family close by. She was born on February 14, 1939, in Harmony, NJ, to the late Alice and Franklin Burd. She graduated from Belvidere High School, Class of 1957. She attended Harmony Presbyterian Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years before moving to Belvidere where she was a member of the Belvidere United Presbyterian Church.

Joannie is survived by her stepson, Glenn Wilson, Sr., his spouse Elizabeth of Belvidere, NJ; two step-grandchildren, Glenn Wilson, Jr., his spouse Jennifer of Mason, Ohio; Theresa Vellis, her spouse Ryan of Stockholm, NJ and two step-great grandchildren, Christopher James (5) and Elizabeth Jane Vellis (2). She is also survived by one brother, George Burd, his spouse Penny of Dallas, Texas and two sisters, Gayle Beacham of Easton, PA and Dot Counterman, her spouse John of Phillipsburg, NJ. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews along with her Godson Jeff Melchor and his spouse Justine, formerly from Belvidere, now Florida.

Joannie was predeceased by her husband, Morris R. Wilson; her parents, Alice and Franklin Burd; two brothers, Clyde and Robert Burd and two sisters, Blanche French and Shirley Meyers.

Shortly after graduating high school, Joannie was hired by the Warren County Freeholders and began her career in the Warren County Clerk’s Office. Over the span of more than 55 years, she served under several County Clerks, as she continued to work part-time well into her mid-80’s.

Joannie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved them dearly and they loved her just as much. She enjoyed her weekly dinner dates with her best friends Miriam Penyak, Marie Petre, Suzie Lubowiki and Mary Haschak and spending weekends shopping with her sister Gayle. She loved sun-tanning at the beach at her condominium in Naples, Florida. She also enjoyed reading and watching old movies.

Joannie’s bubbly personality, contagious laugh and bright smile will be missed by those who knew her. It is her hope that this is how everyone will remember her.

It is Joannie’s wish that services be private and there will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Good Will Fire Company, 689 Water Street, Belvidere, NJ 07823, the Wounded Warrior Project, Donor Care Center, PO Box 758541, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8541 or the American Cancer Society local chapter in Joannie’s memory.
