Obituary of Dennis H. Staples
Dennis (known to many as “Sport”) Staples, 71, of Pen Argyl, PA, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 13, 1954, in Phillipsburg, NJ.
Dennis graduated from Phillipsburg High School where he acquired his nickname “Sport”. He excelled in sports, particularly basketball and football, and was offered several college scholarships.
Dennis is survived by his spouse, Billie Jean Beers-Staples; daughters, Carly Staples and her fiancé Alexander Bonisese; Tess Wivell and her husband William; sisters, Denise Synder and her husband Bryan; Dawn Rick and her husband John, and Michelle Rogers; brother David Rogers and his wife Michelle; five grandchildren, Dorian, Gunnar, Alexander, Jr., Gemma and William 5th (Billy).
Dennis was predeceased by his mother, Yvonne Walters; stepfather, William Rogers; and sister, Debra Bogoly.
Sport worked for many years in the trucking industry and recently retired from Waste Management after 30 plus years where he was employed as an Environmental Specialist.
Dennis’ greatest joy was spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved his daughters unconditionally and was so proud to be their dad. His grandchildren were “Pop-Pop’s” pride and joy, and he loved them with all his heart and soul. Pop-Pop was their superhero, and they loved him dearly.
Sport was an avid NY Mets and Miami Dolphins fan, even when they were having a bad season.
It is Dennis’ wish that services be private. There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dennis’ name to the American Cancer Society local chapter.
