Obituary of Shirley Rutherford

Shirley Orner Rutherford, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Shirley grew up in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, before settling in Ewing, New Jersey. There, she worked for 28 years at Super Fresh Food Market, forming many close and lasting friendships throughout her career.

After retiring, Shirley and her husband moved to Belvidere, New Jersey, where she embraced a new chapter filled with warmth, community, and new friendships. She was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, baking, and her deep love for her family.

Shirley treasured every moment with her grandchildren Shane, Shelby, and Coby Bishop who were her pride and joy. She loved family gatherings and enjoyed the excitement of playing the slots at the casino, where she always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. One of her greatest joys was spending time with family in the Pocono Mountains, where many special memories were made.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Rutherford; her loving children, Shawn Bishop (Jon), Ryan Rutherford (Tamara), and Kelly Rutherford; her cherished grandchildren; and her siblings, Donna McCarren (Chick), Donald Orner Jr. (Nina), and Michelle Cayce (Rick); and aunt and uncle, Charlie and Polly Orner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Donald Orner and Vera Sobetsky.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who know her. Shirley’s warmth, laughter, and love will never be forgotten.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 26, 2025 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ. Family and friends may call from 9:30 AM to the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Shirley’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
