Obituary of James F. Mooney
James (Jim) Mooney passed away peacefully in his Belvidere home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Jim was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, but always felt he should have been born in the country. He loved everything about the natural beauty of Warren County, having lived here for 40+ years. He happily cherished his life here with family and friends. He loved taking care of the Farm and was always happy on his tractor and his favorite “new toy”, his Zero Turn Mower!
Jim’s love of life and his humor were contagious. He was a self-proclaimed simple man. But to us he was and always will be our hero, our Superman.
Jim’s career of 42 years with the U.S. Department of Labor was a source of great pride for Jim and all the family. He was devoted to the work he did and was grateful for the opportunity to help anyone in need.
Jim truly was a man who never met a stranger…only friends he hadn’t met yet.
We will remember Jim forever as a wonderful human being. He bravely handled his many health issues throughout his life with strength, courage, and dignity. And always his reassuring and boundless good humor. He brought joy, fun, and laughter everywhere he went.
Jim loved the outdoors… the mountains (especially the Poconos), the beach (especially St. Petersburg Beach and the Jersey Shore), parks, lakes & streams & gardens everywhere, outdoor concerts, and of course Disneyworld!
Jim’s message for all who knew him was to enjoy the little things, be thankful, have a picnic, walk on the beach, eat ice cream, relax, laugh a lot, and enjoy the music…lots of music! Keep it simple and focus on the positive.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Florence and Ed Mooney, and his sister Maureen Mooney.
Jim is survived by Mary, his soulmate and wife of 52 years (56 years counting dating!), his 2 loving sons, Alex and his partner Kristen, Steven and his partner Eric.
He is also survived by his brother Eddie and his wife Kathy, brother Tommy and his wife Cindy, and sister-in-law Patrice Day. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews: Liz, Tommy , Janine, Tara, Brian, Timothy, Jonathan, Paul, Kira and all their spouses, partners and children.
It is Jim’s wish that there will be no formal visitation, wake, or funeral. The family will be having a celebration of Jim’s life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey, 635 South Clinton Ave., Trenton, NJ, 08611 or to your favorite charity.
