Obituary of Irene Julia Sebold
Irene Julia Sebold (nee Dolywa) 86 of Belvidere, NJ, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, after a short stay at Merry Heart Nursing Care Center in Succasunna, NJ.
Born on October 20, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Julia (Schmidt) Dolywa. Irene attended St. John’s grammar school and had the “best time of her life” at St. Dominic’s Academy on Duncan Avenue.
She met the love of her life, Donald George Sebold, at the age of 16 in 1954 and happily married him in 1957. Together they raised five children, starting their journey in Stanhope, NJ and then settling in Netcong before she moved to Belvidere in 2014.
A devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church in Oxford, Irene loved to play the organ, gardening, Polka dancing, cooking and discussing topics such as religion, history, and politics. There was never a quiet moment in her company. She will be remembered for her strong faith, delicious home cooked meals, her thoughtful Christmas gifts and her love for Beekman 1802 products! She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Irene is predeceased by her husband and best friend, Donald in 2009, and her son Donald Jr. in 2020.
Irene is survived by her loving children who took wonderful care of her, Bethanne Sebold, MaryJean Fiore (Joe), Michael Sebold (Elizabeth) along with Denise Shapiola; 12 grandchildren, Michael S. Sebold (Quinn), Alyssa Washer (Captain Peter Washer, U.S. Air Force), Petty Officer 1st Class Nick Sebold, U.S. Navy, Joseph Sebold, Ashley Ely (Robert), Joey Fiore (Selena), Christopher Fiore, Dominic Fiore, Angela Fiore, Vincent Fiore, Juliana and Matthew Shapiola; six great-grandchildren, Vivian and Cash Sebold, Sophia Fiore, Peyton and Eliana Washer and Ava Ely.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, August 18, 2025, at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 85 Academy Street, Oxford, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Pequest Road, Belvidere, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to be made in Irene’s memory to St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church.
