Obituary of William Edward Hmirak

William (Bill) Edward Hmirak, age 84, of Centreville, VA, passed away on October 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church in Great Meadows, NJ, on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Pequest Union Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of MacFadden Funeral Home.

Born on May 18, 1941, in Jersey City, NJ, Bill was the son of Edward Daniel Hmirak and Virginia Struble. He attended Cliffside Park High School and pursued a diverse career that included truck driving–allowing him to explore the country-and carpentry, where he was a lifelong member of the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Local #254. He also worked for EB Erectors and later founded his own company, Liberty Mechanical.

Bill was deeply committed to public service, serving for many years on the Liberty Township Board of Education and Township Board. A devoted member of St. Peter & Paul Church, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #10322 and Assembly #2450, achieving the highest rank of Fourth Degree Knight. He also coached youth baseball and was active in his community.

Bill found joy in traveling and spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He is survived by his sister Mary Carannante (Tony); daughters Kristin Gorman (Chris), Nancy Mattfeld (Glen), and Suzanne Poch (Russ); granddaughters Sara (Marshall) and Anna; grandsons Tim, Wil, Zach, Nolan, Sean, and Carson; and great-granddaughters Shepherd and Alice. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, and his mother and father.

In honor of Bill’s life and legacy, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
