Obituary of Edgar Jay Poyer

Edgar Jay Poyer, 92, a longtime resident of Oxford, NJ passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Morristown Medical Center.

Born on August 2, 1933, in White Township, NJ, he was the son of the late Floyd Poyer and Loretta R. Swayze Poyer.

Edgar found enjoyment in hunting and fishing.  He was talented at tying dry flies for fly fishing, something he referred to as a gentleman’s sport.   He liked woodworking and carpentry and completed many do-it-yourself projects over the years. He also enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a good sense of humor; wanted to leave everyone with a smile.

At 16 years of age, he went to work in the Belvidere Hosiery.  He later spent most of his working days at Triumph Machinery Co.  in Hackettstown, NJ until the company closed. At this time, he went to work at the Warren Haven Nursing Home in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1995.

Edgar was an active member of the Belvidere Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was baptized on May 21, 1978.  He was willing to share his faith with anyone who would listen.

In addition to his parents, Edgar was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia G. Rabenold Poyer of 64 years, in 2016; brothers, Oscar Poyer, and Claude R. Poyer; a sister, Irene E. Cyphers; a grandson Frankielee M.  Bailey.

Edgar is survived by his four daughters; Margie Bailey, Loretta Pfeil (husband Miles), Patricia Buchma and Susan Poyer; a grandson Daniel Bailey, granddaughters Jennifer Bailey, and Melissa, Stephanie and Michelle Buchma; great grandchildren, Adam, Gage, Kadance, Andrew, Khloe, Frankielee J., Jackson, Jasmine, Bailey, Michael and Philip; a brother, Arthur M. Poyer.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 9, 2026 at the MacFadden Funeral Home, Belvidere, NJ. Interment will follow in the Buttzville Cemetery, White Township, NJ. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edgar’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
