Obituary of Helen Aizley

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Helen Aizley, age 84, of White Township, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2026.

The daughter of Frank and Mary Tapler, Helen began life in June of 1941 on a kitchen table in the family apartment on 95th Street in New York City.  Her youth was spent in the Germanic/Hungarian neighborhood of upper Manhattan.  She attended New York City public schools, graduating from Hunter College High School in 1958.  Although a very good student, she decided to forgo college and entered the working world, eventually becoming an Export Manager for an American tobacco company, exporting cigarettes around the world.  In the early 1980’s, she moved on from exporting to become a long-time assistant to her husband, Dan, in his Englewood Cliffs, N.J. based accounting consulting business.

Helen enjoyed traveling where she and Dan visited many states across America.  She had a special interest in discovering our most treasured places, our national parks, and visited as many as possible.  She was similarly interested in exploring the world, and as a couple they enjoyed many trips abroad.  Helen loved going to Las Vegas to gamble and visit with Dan’s family.  She loved those Las Vegas buffets!  Or any, for that matter!

Helen possessed a deep sense of caring and compassion.  She devoted many years to Bergen Pines Hospital in Paramus, N.J. as a volunteer aiding quadriplegics and paraplegics.  In 1970, Helen discovered she had Multiple Sclerosis.  Her MS caused ever decreasing physical abilities and as she aged the symptoms became noticeable and challenging.  Sadly, the automobile accident she and Dan experienced in 2007 resulted in her becoming a quadriplegic.  Her deep faith gave her the strength to move forward.

Helen and Dan moved to White Township in 2008 to be closer to her sister and family.  Helen and her sister started a weekly Dominos game with several friends from the neighborhood.  Those who sat across a game table from Helen quickly learned of her competitive spirit.  Helen liked spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed many dinners and holidays with them.  She also enjoyed monthly dinners out with her Pennsylvania cousins.

Anyone who had the good fortune of meeting Helen will remember her for her courage, resiliency, strength, and steadfast perseverance.  Her positive attitude and always warm smile in response to profound challenges was truly inspirational and admired by her family and friends.  She chose to be better over bitter.  While earthly bodies may have limitations, Helen will be restored to a state of perfect wholeness in Heaven.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, and sister Florence Mazurczyk.  She leaves behind her loving and caring husband Dan, nieces Deborah Melton (Dennis) and Denise Walkowicz (Dale), and great nieces and nephews: Isaac, Drew, Ethan and Victoria.
