Obituary of Michael A. Morongell

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Anthony Morongell announce his passing. He ended life’s journey on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with his wife of almost 70 years, Mary (Scola), by his side. He was 94 years old.

“Mike” as he was best known by all, was born on September 24, 1931, to Michael and Carmella (Squillante) Morongell in Montclair, NJ where he grew up. After graduating from Bloomfield Technical High School, where he was both Jr. and Sr. class president, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving for four years and continuing his training as a draftsman. After, Mike had an extensive career as a designer, draftsman and plant engineer with many companies including Curtis Wright, RCA, Bell Labs, Bendix, Allied Signal and Honeywell.

After meeting and marrying “the love of his life” as he called her, Mike and Mary raised their family in West Caldwell, NJ. Mike was very active in the community for many years, including the Boy Scouts, West Caldwell Environmental Commission, Caldwell Gridiron Club and Knights of Columbus. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Aloysius R.C. Church.

After retiring and moving to Belvidere, Mike enjoyed playing golf, bocce ball, wintering in Florida, and spending lots of time with his family (his favorite thing). A lifelong lover of all music, he enjoyed playing the clarinet, bongo drums and most of all his harmonica. And as a sports enthusiast, you could always find him watching his favorite teams – NY Giants, Yankees and Rangers.

His wish was to leave this world with people saying, “he was a nice guy”. And he more than accomplished that. Mike is best remembered a loving, gregarious, and caring man. A friend to all – welcoming everyone into his home and his world. One of the warmest and most generous people you could know, and he always had a funny story or quip.

Mike is forever and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Mary, daughter Lori (Joseph) Hiznay, son Michael (Tracy) Morongell, grandchildren Lauren (John) Rotchford, Alex Hiznay, Anna (Andre) Lamadrid, Mathew Morongell, Mia Morongell, great-granddaughter Charlotte Lynn Rotchford, brother Louis Morongell and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his daughter Lynn Morongell (2018), sister Marie Kaminsky and husband John, sister Dorothy Palla and husband Robert, sister-in-law Marie Morongell, nephew Gregory Morongell and other loved ones.

Family, friends and others whose lives Michael touched are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, March 26, between 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, followed by an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick R.C. Church, 327 Greenwich St. Belvidere, NJ. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Belvidere, NJ.

In lieu of flowers the family asks you to consider honoring Mike’s memory with a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
