Obituary of Richard C. Johnson
Richard “Dick” Carl Johnson, 94, of Harmony Township, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on August 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 24, 1932, in Belvidere, New Jersey, to the late Arnold Christian Johnson and Ruth Raisley Johnson. Richard lived a life marked by faith, devotion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Throughout his life, Richard dedicated himself to a career in the financial investment field. His career began at Prudential, continued with General Acceptance Corporation, and concluded at Jeras Corporation in Allentown, where he retired at the age of 73.
After graduating from Belvidere High School in 1950, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Leyte aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He later graduated from Rider University in 1958 with a degree in finance. Following his discharge from the service, he married the love of his life, Loyce Marie Cook. Together, they were blessed to celebrate 72 years of marriage on July 31, 2026.
Richard was an accomplished musician who played clarinet as well as tenor and alto saxophone in orchestras throughout the Lehigh Valley. He had a deep love for swing and big band music, and he especially cherished time spent with family and friends.
A faithful member and Elder of Harmony Presbyterian Church, Richard also served on the church’s Finance Committee. His Christian faith was evident in his service, generosity, and steady love for his family and community. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, served for 12 years on the Harmony Township School Board, and also served as Harmony Township Treasurer.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Loyce; his children, Jeri Lynn Flynn (Vincent Plano), Brent Richard Johnson (Cathy), and Kristin Anne Bartakovits (Richard); his grandchildren, Megan Flynn Keyser (Patrick), Melissa Marie McNulty (Sean), and Brandon Brent Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin Patrick Keyser, Flynn Johansson Keyser, Reese Marie Keyser, Madison Noelle McNulty, and Makenna Laine McNulty. He is also survived by his sister, June Lewis; his brother, Larry Johnson (Michele); and many nieces and nephews. He will also be dearly missed by his Havachon, Macie.
A memorial service celebrating Richard’s life and faith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 12, 2026, at Harmony Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Belvidere Cemetery.
