Ernest C. Smith,Sr., 94, of White Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at St. Luke's Warren Campus, Phillipsburg, NJ.

Born on December 4, 1922 in Belvidere, NJ, he was the son of the late Leon A. Smith and Anna Elizabeth Miller Smith.

Ernest had been a shop foreman for the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 42 years before retiring.

He had been a Staff Sargent in the Army during WWII.

Ernest was a member of the American Legion, Carl D. Archer Post #528, White Township, NJ. He was an avid gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth A. Hornbaker Smith, who died on September 6, 2006.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest C. Smith, Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Bartonsville, PA, and Dennis L. Smith and his wife Irene of White Township, NJ; a daughter, Susan Zwicker and her husband Keith of Phillipsburg, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 3, 2017 at Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, NJ under the direction of MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ.
