Obituary of John L. Mourry

John Louis Mourry, age 92 passed away on July 9, 2023 at his home,  Chelsea at Brookfield, Belvidere NJ.  Born March 16, 1931 in Brooklyn to John and Rose Mourry (Nee Esposito).   John was married to Angelina Mourry (Nee Chiarelli) on July 5, 1952 while in service for the United States Marine Corp.  John was active duty during the Korean Conflict and stationed in Puerto Rico.  He was discharged from the Corp as a Corporal on April 20, 1954.   John resided after his discharge in Brooklyn, NY where he lived with his wife Angelina and three children, John, Paul and Susan (Antonio).

John’s early life when school was dismissed for the summer, was spent on a Dairy Farm Upstate in Munnsville NY, Bob Lamb’s farm.  He worked for room and board with a small stipend in which he used to buy a 22 rifle which he used to help keep the farm safe from predators.  He enjoyed spending time on the farm where he learned the value of hard work. 

After his Corp life, he moved back to Brooklyn where he raised his family.  He worked as a Longshoreman on the NY docks alongside relatives.  John was the grandfather of five; Paul Mourry, Janette Howel and Diana Perna, children of Paul and Kathleen (Sis Mourry) (nee Flynn), Robert and Michelle Antonio children of Susan and Robert Antonio.  John had eight great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Matthew and Christopher Mourry, children of Paul and Tara Mourry, Angelina, Mia and Josh Howell, children of Janette and Jay Howell, Cody and Cory Perna, children of Diana and TJ Perna.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the wonderful care given by all the nurses, aides, workers and staff at the Chelsea at Brookfield and hospice care nurses.  John was loved by the entire Chelsea family where he worked as the doorman opening the door for all who entered and left the facility.  He will be missed by all.

A Graveside Service will be held 12:45 PM, Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the Belvidere Cemetery, Oxford Street, Belvidere, NJ. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon, Thursday, July 13, 2023 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
