James Curtis Poyer, Curt to his friends and family, 56, of Belvidere, NJ, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Philadelphia, PA after a courageous battle with a highly resistant pneumonia. Born May 4, 1955 in East Stroudsburg, PA, he was the son of the late James A. and Marion McLain Poyer. Curtis graduated Belvidere High School in 1973. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Lehigh University and later joined his father in the printing business at the Poyer Press in Belvidere. He also drove special education students to school, a job he enjoyed immensely. Curtis was a gentle giant of a man who was known for his sweet and sensitive nature, his humor and intelligence, and his love of music. He always enjoyed good food, the company of friends, driving, hiking and playing frisbee. He was an admirer of the legendary classical conductor and composer Wilhelm Furtwangler and was a member of the Wilhelm Furtwangler Society. He is survived by his sisters, Dolores Lynch and her husband Frederick, and Paula Hilliard and her husband Kenneth; nieces, Denise Hilliard, Mariellen Hilliard and fiancé Christopher Shick and Amy Klinder and her husband Bryan; grand nephews, Ashton Klinder and Owen James Shick.
