Obituary of Letitia L. McCarthy

Please share a memory of Letitia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Letitia Lorrain (Tish) McCarthy, 94 of White Township, New Jersey, passed away on December 27, 2023 at her home with her family.

Graveside service will be held at Laurelwood Cemetery, 901 Bryant Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11am. MacFadden Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.

Letitia was born in Stroudsburg, PA to Nora (Vallershamp) and Grady McIntyre on October, 15, 1929.

From 1936 to 1945 she and her sister Betty lived at Saint Patrick's Orphanage in Scranton PA. She was a graduate of Easton Catholic High School in PA and graduated from Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1951. She worked as a Registered Nurse in various nursing homes and hospitals in PA, MA, and NJ and retired from Chilton Hospital in Pompton Plains NJ.

She met the love of her life Francis McCarthy Sr while they worked as summer help at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH and were married for 54 years until his passing in 2006. Her joy was her 6 children and her friends and relatives. She laughed easily, enjoyed a good party, and loved to play games and plan fun activities for all. Many family get-togethers were held at her house, and everyone loved to gather for a swim in her beloved pool.

Her calling for service was evident in her career choice as well as the organizations she volunteered for. She was very involved in Boy Scouts with both sons and ran the spaghetti dinner with her husband for many years in Pompton Plains. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years, both in Plainfield NJ and in the Pompton Plains area. So many great stories from scouting that 50 years later they are still talked about! She was very involved with any church she attended, worked diligently with the Hospital Auxiliary and kept busy with the women's group from the First Reformed Church in Pompton Plains, who embraced her whole heartedly. She loved her crafts and enjoyed getting involved with various projects, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Tish McCarthy is survived by her two sons, Francis Jr. and Brian McCarthy; four daughters, Diane Robinson, Brenda McCarthy, Lorrain McCarthy, and Letitia McCrea and her husband Dave; seven grandchildren, Christopher S., Aaron, Grace, Christopher X., Rachel, Jordan, and Connor; five great grandchildren, Spencer, Ellie, Paxtyn, Cameron and Riley, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her husband Frank, her brothers George McIntyre and Journal McIntyre, her sisters Beth Brown and Barbara George, her son in law Ron Robinson, and her niece Ellen Keating.
