Obituary of John G. Stasyshyn

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Gregory Stasyshyn, 70, born in the old Warren Hospital on June 28, 1954 to the late John and Betty (Richline) Stasyshyn, passed away July 14, 2024 with his nephews, Hank and Chris Stasyshyn as well as Jack Brink at his side.

John was raised in Hampton, NJ. He attended Hampton Elementary School and was a 1972 graduate of North Hunterdon Regional High School. He loved going to school.

As a young boy, John enjoyed fishing with his father, building kites, model cars, mainly street rods/ hot rods, playing little league baseball and basketball. He loved riding his Sting Ray banana seat bicycle with gold metal flake paint and the slick rear tire. Later, he enjoyed roller skating at the Villa Roller Rink, Broadway, NJ.

John worked at different jobs; CNG Electronics, Brass Castle, NJ, Washington Auto Parts, pumping gas at different service stations, and Ingersoll Rand. John enjoyed working at IR the most, especially the people he worked with, such as Tom E.,Walt D., Frankie P., Charlie R., J.D. Ditson, Jackie H., Clayton S. and so many others.

John enjoyed hunting and gun collecting.

John was the owner of many classic street rods. John's most cherished was a 1941 Chevy Coupe; an 11 second car the back yard boys built with very little to work with. The second was the wine wagon, a 1923 C Cab delivery truck. This was a #1 show winner everywhere shown, having 127 different colors all done in lacquer. No doubt, you needed sunglasses to look at this beauty. The third, was his 1930 Model A. The first built type Hot Rod from the 1930's era. This was a real show stopper.

After IR closed, John moved to Tennessee, putting all of his cars on the back burner. He worked as a car salesman at a dealership and a machine shop making parts. He learned how to make Southern Style BBQ as well as operating a BBQ business from his friend Bryant Dunn of Shelbyville TN. John's smoker truck "Have Pit Will Travel" was also built by Bryant.

John decided to move back to NJ to start his own BBQ business, Hog Hollow BBQ "The Home of Swine Dinning", also known as "The Pig Pen", on Rt. 57, Phillipsburg. Over the years, John had catered for many people and businesses. Just a few that he always talked about were, Smith Motors, Tramontin Harley-Davidson, the Eagles footbal team( Trent Cole was his favorite player), Hampton Fire Department, Warren Hospital, Burds Farm, Califon, NJ, S&M Concrete and many more. John's last catered BBQ was at Captin Jack's in NC for his daughter's wedding in 2018.

John was predeceased by his parents, John and Betty Stasyshyn.

Surviving are his brother Joe Stasyshyn and his wife Dolores; nephews, Christopher Stasyshyn and his wife Lindsey and Hank Stasyshyn; niece, Amanda Collins and her husband Evan; a grandnephew, Axel Corey Collins.
