Obituary of J. Roger Ouellette
J. Roger Ouellette of Heath Village, formerly of the Brookfield section of White Township, NJ passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Hackettstown Medical Center, Hackettstown, NJ.
Roger was born in New York City, raised in Massachusetts and lived in New Jersey since 1953. He was the son of the late Alphee J. Ouellette and Rose Delima Breau Ouellette.
Roger had served in the U.S. Air Force during peacetime, then earned an associate degree from Worcester Junior College (MA) and a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. He also attended Newark College of Engineering.
He was a mechanical engineer at Bell Laboratories for over 35 years working principally on military systems for the Navy. He lived in Whippany for 40 years, moving to Brookfield Estates in 2002, before moving to Heath Village in 2014.
During retirement, Roger was a volunteer at Center for Enabling Technology in Whippany for 10 years, doing maintenance and repairs on PC and MAC computers. After moving to Brookfield, he did similar work for many years at the ARC of Warren County in Washington, NJ.
Roger enjoyed his favorite pastimes of reading, fishing, hiking, exploring new restaurants, travelling with family and friends, and red wine.
Roger was a parishioner of St. Patrick R.C. Church, Belvidere, NJ. He was a long-time retreatant at the Loyola House of Retreats in Morristown, NJ.
Roger was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Maria T. Oriente Ouellette who died on October 23, 2009.
Surviving is his daughter Dianne Scherrer and her husband Glenn McAteer of Blairstown, NJ; two brothers, Raymond J. Ouellette and his wife Carol of Hastings, FL and Francis G. Ouellette and his wife Gloria of Auburn, MA; a step granddaughter, Kiersten Shelton and her husband Kenneth; two step great-grandsons, Andrew and Sean, all of Meridian, MS.
A Christian Wake service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 11, 2025, at MacFadden Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Belvidere, NJ. Friends may call from 9:00 AM to the time of the service at the funeral home.
