Obituary of Gladys Edgar Marcus

Gladys Edgar Marcus, of Deland, FL, formerly of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at her home after a long illness. Born on June 12, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Minnie and George Edgar. Gladys and her husband James T. Marcus were married for 54 years. She attended the Belvidere School System and was a graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. Upon graduation, she was appointed chief clerk of the Warren County Selective Service Board during World War II. Gladys served as a secretary with the Celanese Corporation of America in Belvidere until her retirement. She was very active in community and social affairs and she sang for special occasions. She moved to Florida with her husband in 1978, when Fluid Dynamics division of Brunswick Corporation relocated to Deland. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, photography and travel. She and her husband traveled extensively; visiting all 50 states and the seven continents of the world, viewing the Great Wall of China, Antarctica, the Berlin Wall, the North and South Pole, and other world famous sites. Gladys was a member of the Belvidere United Methodist Church, singing then directing the senior choir and was appointed the first woman member of the Board of Trustees of the church. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Deland Country Club. Surviving in addition to her husband James, are Rose Morton of Trenton, NJ; Mr and Mrs Lex Hughes of Cooksville, MD; nieces and nephews.
