Rudolph T. Stivala, Jr., 65, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Montclair on October 19, 1943 to the late Rudolph T. Sr. and Concetta (Campanalunga) Stivala, he was a resident of West Orange for over 41 years before moving to Belvidere four years ago. Mr. Stivala was a communications technician for Verizon Telephone in Verona for 33 years, retiring in 2001. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 827. Additionally, he was a supporter of the Blood Bank for Verizon employees for many years. He was also a Special Police Officer for the West Orange Police Department. Mr. Stivala, affectionately known as Rudy, was an avid bowler, fisherman and active with the Cub Scouts of West Orange as well as a member of the Music Boosters of West Orange Mountain High School. His life revolved around his loving family & cherished grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Dorothy Domenic; his son Joseph (and his wife Chrissy) of Westfield; two daughters, Vicki Burke (and her husband John) of Belvidere, and Elena Braun of Belvidere; his sister Linda Rolleri (and her husband Joseph) of Clifton; four grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Stivala, and John and Anthony Burke; He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his best friend Paul Cuccio & many devoted friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Stivala are requested by the family to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 500 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. or The Leukemia Society.
