Condolences
Back in my high school years, I had the privilege of going on 2 Adventure Unlimited trips to Quebec, canoeing 2 weeks each summer of 1974 and 1975. We went with a group from Camp Donegal, a Presbyterian denomination church camp in York County, PA. The trips were wonderful!! We learned so much about ourselves, and how to care about others, all the while stretching our physical abilities, and learning to love the wild, wilderness. Thank you Homer, for sharing your Boy Scout "camp" with girls. Bekah McCredie-Mellinger
I went with AU to Quebec for two trips with the scouts and even after the scouts did trips with friends leaving from the Lac Landon base camp. These trips were the most memorable of my life and I am now 66 years old.
Homer Hicks was a great man and has my total respect and appreciation for the experiences he has brought my way through AU!
God Bless Homer Hicks and family!
In 1957 went to the camp in Canada had a great time. It was my last camping trip. he was a great man
One of my most memorable summers was in 1967 when I participated in an Adventures Unlimited trip where I was introduced not only to the beauty of the wilderness , but the sense of accomplishment and the true meaning of teamwork.
Thank you Homer. May you Rest in Peace...
Now and then one meets an individual who stands far above the norm. Such was Homer. His desire to help others in so many ways will be remembered by all throughout their lives.
My personal memories of the Camp at Landron which I visited at least 20 times will always be one of the best memories of my life. Of course it would have been better had Homer been there for all my trips. I still hope to get there a few more times.
My sympathy to those of his family, but rest assure Homer will be looking for a new Camp and helping those around him whenever he can.

To the Hicks family,
Please accept our most sincere sympathy. To have known such a great person was a real privilege. Our family will always have very fond memories of Homer and Adventure Unlimited.
Sincerely,
Claire and Frank Poirier,

To the Hicks family-
we will always remember Homer washing the dishes after all the many roast beef dinners we had at his beloved United Methodist church. His hands were raw and the brightest red but he stayed till the bitter end! We loved talking with him and his many boy scout stories and his relationship with Don & Marquerite Wolf. We will miss him dearly..

Members of the Hicks family,
It is no secret that Homer was, and will continue to be, a major influence in my life. Homer was my Scout Master, a role model and long-time friend. He lived his life modeling Christian and Scouting principles. As was clearly evident at the viewing and funeral service Homer influenced an amazingly large number of us. Memories are tricky things, but snapshots from mine include exploring the aisles in his store, sledding, hunting and working at his farm, and of course Adventures Unlimited. Attached to all of those memories are conversations with Homer. He had so much to share, and many tales to tell, but at the same time he was always a good listener. Adventures Unlimited, and Homer, also positively influenced my wife Dorothy and out children Jennifer and Daniel - as well as a large circle of our friends who spent time “on the trail” and at Lac Landron base camp. I will miss him.
We have always considered Homer a close friend and Christian Brother. We shall miss him until we meet again in Glory with our blessed Lord Jesus!
Vicki,Hicksie and Family, So sorry to learn of your loss, but what an asset he was to our community. My thoughts and Prayers are with you all. Take Care,Love, Sharon Walden Shay
Dear Roger and all the family,

I was a member of the troop 141 scouts when I was a kid in the late 70's and early 80s. My father, Harry C. Moore was scoutmaster for a couple of years during the same period. Mr. Hicks will leave behind a great legacy for future generations of communinty activists to aspire to rival. My condolences to the Hicks family
Dottie and I are so sad to hear of Homer's passing. Some of my fondest memories are summer times when we were privilaged to share the joy of families coming together at the camp and helping out on the ice truck with all my cousins. Homers life was of giving to others and loving his family but loving the Lord and being his servant was his joy. All who knew him loved and respected him.
What a pleasure it was to know "Uncle Homer" A man as wonderful as this will be truly missed by his town and his friends. There are few men like "Uncle Homer"- he was truly unique.

Homer went to school with my mother, Verna, and served many years with my father, William (Doc) in the Belvidere Boy Scout Troop. I and my two brothers were members of troop 141 all the years we lived there. Boy Scout training has served me all my life. He was a great, humble man who has influenced many people's lives.
Homer made a positive impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A gentleman who truly lived the Boy Scout Oath and Laws.
A life long public servant who never wanted or expected recognition.
I have been blessed to have known Homer as a leader and friend.
A job well done Homer!
Rest in peace
All good Scouts prepare to go,
not only on the earthly trail, but also on the heavenly trail
May it be the early dawn of youth or the twi-light of old age
to this end may the great master of all good Scouts keep our hearts in mind till we meet again.
Having grown up (both of us)as adopted members of the Hicks family, we have many wonderful warm memories of "Uncle Homer". What a life well lived and what an example of what a Christian life looks like. He taught us many things all wrapped up in his warmth and wisdom. He surely will be missed but we are comforted full well knowing this special man has a special place in heaven.

How could you grow up in Belvidere without knowing what a special person Homer Hicks was? When I was a Brownie and Girl Scout we had many meetings in the Scout Home, he founded. When I was a teenager I had the joy of going to his wilderness camp in Canada with my parents and brothers. My sympathy to his relatives. Belvidere has lost a great asset.
Homer Hicks was not only my neighbor but more importantly, my friend and mentor. As a small boy growing up in our beautiful town of Belvidere,NJ, I would (on a daily basis) visit my best friend and neighbor "Uncle Homer". Homer had an Antique Emporium half a block away from my families home on 5th st and so I would pedal my tricycle over to see him and listen to his wonderful tales of adventure and daring do. (a piece of candy never hurt the visit either). As I got older the visits became less frequent but the greeting was always the same "Kimmy, are you keeping your nose out of trouble?" and I would always fib and say "of course Uncle Homer" and he would just shake his head and laugh.
I have many memories of this wonderful man and will forever treasure them as I do Homer himself.
Rest well my friend and thank-You for just being you.
Kim McDonald
Uncle Homer as we all knew you may you rest in peace. All the people of my age that grew up knowing you owe you a debt of gratitude for showing us the best way to live our lives. Wheather we were involved in Scouting or just knew you by coincidence you where one great man. I shall never forget you and your brothers for the relationships we shared together through the years living in Belvidere. You will always be Uncle Homer to me. Thanks for all the wonderful memories I have of you.
We were very sad to hear about Homer's passing..he had such an extraordinary life full of service to the town of Belvidere and to all the boy scouts who had the honor of spending time with him up in Canada or at the scout home on Race St. God certainly blessed him with a great love of his fellow man. He will be missed by so many people who had the pleasure of knowing such a sweet, caring person. May his family be comforted by all the great memories and know that he has eternal rest now with his Heavenly Father.
