Obituary of William Seth Gill

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Seth Gill, 80, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his home after a courageous three year battle with kidney cancer. Born on July 13, 1929 in Buttonwood, Hanover Township, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Laura Gray Gill. Mr. Gill had lived in Washington, NJ, Livingston, NJ and Easton, PA before moving to Belvidere. He was a 1947 graduate of Hanover Twp. High School then earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University. Known as Seth to his family and friends during his youth and early adulthood, he was always hard at work doing one job or another to help out with the family expenses. He was a grocery boy, a "Soda Jerk" in a drug store, and a lace mill and dress factory worker in his younger years. He served in the Navy and then the Merchant Marines where he sailed the iron ore ships in the Great Lakes. Then, he went on to his career as an engineer. He held many positions until fate led him to his true calling. William Seth Gill was the Founder and C.E.O. of the Flexicon Corporation, now headquartered in Bethlehem, PA. Starting it with little money but lots of work in 1974, he watched it grow to its current international success with independent manufacturing operations in the USA, Europe, Australia and Africa, a tremendous achievement for a coal miner's son from the anthracite coal region of PA. As a teen and young man he played the French horn in the Hanover Twp. High School Band. He loved to hunt with his brother Edward and his friends. As a man, he was a world traveler that has seen far more than most; Northern Africa where he walked in Egyptian pyramids, Israel at the Wailing Wall, Southern Africa where he went on safari and drove nest to wild lions and elephants. He traveled Europe both east and west, Australia, and Asia where he was treated as royalty and walked the Great Wall of China. He loved to go back to England on a regular basis to be with his friend Dennis and do things like Kiss the Blarney Stone in Ireland. In his spare time William would read book after book of his favorite authors like Ludlum, Michener, Clancy, and so many others. Surviving are his wife Carol Nahirny Gill; a son, David Gill and his wife Mabel of Easton, PA; two daughters, Michele Kreinheder and her husband Mark of Long Beach, CA, and Kaitlynne Gill; a stepson, Cyrus Cawthorn and his wife Mara of Windermere, FL; a stepdaughter, Kristin Duffy of Belvidere, NJ; a brother, Edward Gill of Wilkes Barre, PA; two sisters, Esther Olshansky of Hamilton Twp., NJ and Cora White of Wallington, NJ; eleven grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews and their families. Our father, husband, brother was a gentleman with quiet strength, great wisdom and endless patience, a patriot, a mentor, young at heart, methodical with work and sacrificed for success but enjoyed life to the fullest, always there to help other, nothing was too much trouble. He made his family very proud. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to Belvidere Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 128, Belvidere, NJ 07823; The Salvation Army, P.O.
