Gilbert B. Smickle, 63, of Hardwick Twp., NJ, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, NJ. Born on November 28, 1946 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was the son of the late Raymond H. Smickle Jr. and Elizabeth Seguine Smickle. Gilbert was a warehouse clerk for Hoffmann-LaRoche, Belvidere, NJ for over 25 years before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church of Belvidere; a former member of the Belvidere Ambulance Corps; Boys Scout of America; and was an active softball and baseball coach for the Belvidere Youth Athletic Association. Surviving are his wife of eight years, Susan Bennett Smickle; three daughters, Khristine Reeder and her husband Jim of Newton, IA, Mary Matusewicz and her husband Mike of White Township, NJ, Kathleen Hambacher of Belvidere, NJ; two step-sons, William Sagan of Vail, NJ and Bryan Sagan of Belvidere, NJ; four brothers, Raymond H., III of Belvidere, NJ, William "Beeb" of St. Petersburg, FL, Jack of Phillipsburg, NJ and Fritz of St. Augustine, FL; two grandsons and five step-grandchildren.
