Obituary of Virginia Helen Mackey

Virginia Helen Mackey, 98, of White Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. Virginia was born on October 23, 1919 in Phillipsburg, NJ the daughter of Clarence and Anna Smith. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School and Churchman's Business School. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert Mackey, Sr. and a brother, Vernon Smith. Surviving are her sister, Eleanor Otten of Goose Creek, SC; two children, Robert Mackey, Jr. of Belvidere, NJ and Kathleen Dewey of Blairstown, NJ; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Virginia and her husband Robert owned and managed Mackey's Orchards in White Township, NJ which is now owned by her grandson, Devlin Mackey. Virginia developed the strawberry business for the farm which was her great pride; for it financed her daughter's college education. Virginia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oxford at Hazen, where she served as ruling elder. She was a member of the Easton Y.M.C.A. for over 30 years. She was also a member of St. Luke's Wellness Center, Phillipsburg, NJ. Over the years, Virginia enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially to Maine in the summer to her daughter's home. Her greatest joy came from spending time with friends and family. She loved entertaining and having everyone together at the farm. She will be dearly missed by all. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 5, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Oxford at Hazen, Brass Castle Road, White Township, NJ. Burial will follow in the Hazen Cemetery, White Township, NJ. Friends may call from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, March 4, 2018 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ.
