Obituary of Mary Jane Smith

Mary Jane Smith, 98, of East Stroudsburg, formerly from Belvidere, New Jersey, died peacefully at home on Friday, April 27, 2018 while under hospice care. Mary was the wife of the late John A. Smith with whom they shared 45 years together until his passing in 1986. She is also predeceased by her nine siblings; her son, Eugene B. Easterbrooks; a grandson, Ricky Smith; a granddaughter, Susan Smith. She was the third oldest born to Israel and Flora (Fontaine) Paquin and helped raise her brothers and sisters while attending to the family farm in Vermont. She moved to Boston and worked as a live-in family caregiver and it was there where she met her husband John. They eventually settled in New Jersey to raise their family. They enjoyed sitting in their screened porch watching the deer and gardening together. Her love of flowers was shown by her extensive gladiola and rose gardens. She took great pride in caring for her lawn. Sunday dinners and playing cards was a family staple. Mary was an avid card player and was always ready for a hand of canasta, penny-ante poker or pinochle. She also enjoyed playing bingo. Mary was an excellent cook although could never provide a recipe, it was always just a dash of this and a dash of that. Mary loved her family, always quick to provide praise and thanks for even the smallest of things. Mary will be deeply missed by her daughter, Carolyn "Cookie" Neipert and son, Walter Smith; grandchildren, Michael Smith, Dan Smith (Melissa), Pam Makosky (Frank), Deb Rudisill (Robert), Ian Smith (Kelly) and Katie Smith. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Tyler Bentzoni, Abigail Hasara, Cinia Smith, Cooper Smith, Mackenzie Makosky, Megan Makosky and Allison Smith. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, NJ.
