Obituary of Fr. Michael A. Driscoll

Reverend Michael A. Driscoll, 91, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2019. Since his retirement, Fr. Michael has resided in Stockertown, PA, St. Francis Residential Community, Denville, NJ, and more recently Care One Cupola, Paramus, NJ. Born in Dunmanus, County Cork, Ireland, he was the son of the late Michael and Hannah O'Driscoll. Fr. Michael received his early education and started working in farming in West Cork. He left Ireland in the late 1940's and lived and worked in England and Canada. He ultimately emigrated to the United States in the early 1950's. After working for a few years in various jobs, he discerned a call to the priesthood. In 1960, he began his theological studies in Co. Waterford, Ireland, at Mount Mellerary College and completed his studies at St. John's Seminary. On June 9, 1968, he was ordained to the Priesthood at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Co. Waterford, Ireland. In 2000, at age 72, Fr. Michael received a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Caldwell College, Caldwell, N.J. Fr. Michael began his ministry in 1968 in the Diocese of Trenton and Metuchen. He served as parochial vicar and hospital chaplain in St. Joseph's Parish, Trenton; St. Paul's Parish, Burlington and the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, Metuchen. In August, 1979, he was named Pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Belvidere, where he served for 24 years until his retirement in 2002. Father Michael was also the Dean of Morris Canal Deanery from 1985-1989, and ministered at the Warren County Prison. Surviving is his sister Mary O'Sullivan, residing in Dunmanus, Co. Cork, Ireland and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Ireland. Fr. Michael was predeceased by his five brothers; Tim, Patrick, John, Jim and Denis and one niece, Siobhan. Wake service, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at St. Patrick R.C. Church beginning with the Reception of the Body at 2:00 PM, Parish Mass to follow at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Belvidere, NJ.
