Obituary of Joseph S. Federico

Joseph Stephen Federico was born in Somerville, NJ on July 19, 1925 to Serafina and Stephano Federico.

He grew up in a close Italian family with his siblings Jerry, Frank, Rose, Steve, Nancy and Theresa. If you grew up in Somerville, you knew their neighborhood corner store and the friends who gathered there.

During WWII at age 18, Joe enlisted in the Army and was a soldier on Utah Beach during the invasion of Normandy. He was wounded in action and made a prisoner of war.

He owned the Federico Insurance Agency on Main Street in Somerville for more then 30 years.

He married  the love of his life, Laurie (Dolores) Douglas. They settled in Pittstown, NJ where they lived for over 20 years. They eventually moved to Belvidere, NJ  to their "happy place" where they have lived for over 20 years.

He cherished his many nieces and nephews and would spend any time he could with them, taking them out to dinner, going to their ball games, their graduations and weddings.

Joe loved racehorses and he owned trotters. He and Laurie loved to travel to watch them race. Joe had a love of boats and boating on Barnegat Bay. He loved to drive all the back roads and find all the best breakfast places. He loved cars and passed that love onto anyone who would meet him at a car show.

He was the kindest of heats and he will be missed by his friends and family. He was one of the "Greatest Generation" having quietly endured so much.
