Obituary of Catherine E. Richards

Catherine Richards (O’Neill), known as Peggy to her friends, born on October 27, 1923 in Lyndhurst NJ, died peacefully in her home, Oxford, NJ on February 1, 2022.

Peggy was the daughter of the late Catherine (Hynes) and Walter O’Neill of Lyndhurst.

Peggy proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945, reaching the rank of Corporal, with an honorable discharge.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 68 years, William (Bert) Richards; her children, William and his wife Brenda, Peter and his wife Carol, Laura Mussleman, and Leslie Mutchler; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen, and a sister, Jeanne.

Peggy, a talented artist, loved seascapes and enjoyed painting with her friends. She gifted many paintings to family and friends.  She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, reading, entertaining family and friends and summers on LBI.

Peggy will be remembered for her love of family and friends, generosity, sense of humor and artistic creations. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
