Obituary of William Bertram Richards
William B. Richards, known to many as Bert, of Oxford, NJ, passed away on July 1, 2022 at the age of 100. He was the husband of the late Peggy (O’Neill) Richards.
Born on April 28, 1922 in Passaic, NJ, Bert was the youngest son of the late Edythe (Bell) and William W of East Rutherford, NJ.
Bert proudly served in the Navy during World War II as a corpsman from 1942 to 1946 and was attached to the 1st Marine Division when deployed in the Pacific and China He received a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge. Bert was a member of the China Marine Association.
Bert is survived by his children, William and his wife Brenda, Peter and his wife Carol, Laura Musselman, and Leslie Mutchler; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen, and his six siblings.
Bert worked for Jack Greenberg and Associates in Philadelphia as a food broker before retiring 30 years ago. He was a savvy businessman who created a successful Danish ham importation business for Jack Greenberg and Associates.
Bert was an avid wood worker for many years and created countless pieces that he and Peggy collaborated on using her artistic talents. Bert enjoyed reading, cooking with Peggy, entertaining family and friends and the many years spent in Surf City, NJ.
Bert will be remembered for his love of family and friends, generosity, sense of humor and a man of honor. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
