Obituary of Barbara J Egan

Barbara June Egan (née Hood), 90, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2023, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on June 18, 1932 in Queens, New York to the late John and Philomena Hood. Shortly after marrying her high school sweetheart, Walter Egan, the couple settled in Berkeley Heights, NJ, where they resided for 42 years. They moved to the Brookfield section of White Township in 2002 to enjoy retirement.

Professionally, Barbara worked as a secretary for Singer for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling and was a participant in the local bowling league. She was an avid fan of all her children and grandchildens’ activities. She loved to travel with her beloved husband, too, but what gave her the most joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Barbara is predeceased by her late  husband, Walter, but she is survived by her four children and their spouses: Ken and Marcia Egan of Rowayton, CT; Kathy and Dave Taylor of Sherrills Ford, NC; Paul and Kelly Egan of Plainsboro, NJ; and John and Mary Egan of Washington, NJ. She also celebrated 13 grandchildren who include: Heather Velenovsky (m. Tom Velenovsky), Matthew Taylor (m. Amber Taylor), Daniel Egan (m. Christie Egan), Ryan Egan (eng. Kelly Klein), Kylen Gaddie (m. Lee Gaddie), Brian Egan-Young (m. Hattie Egan-Young), Erin Jacques (m. Michael Jacques), Eric Taylor (m. Katie Taylor), Christina Egan, Michael Egan, Emily Egan, Patrick Egan, and Allison Egan. Additionally, her 8 beautiful great-grandchildren—Sophia, MacKenzie, Sloan, Henry, Wilder, Carter, Declan, and Chloe—will carry Barbara’s legacy.  

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, visitation for Barbara will be hosted at MacFadden Funeral Home–325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ–from 4 PM to 7 PM. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery Thursday, March 16th at 11 AM .
