Obituary of Cecil F. Cornish

Cecil F. Cornish, 85, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday January 21, 2007. Born in Stanhope, NJ on February 9, 1921, he was the son of the late Paul Knight Cornish and Leona Hawk Cornish. Cecil was a mechanic and had operated the Short Stop Garage, White Township, NJ. Cecil had served in the Army during WWII in the 63rd Division, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had received the bronze star for his meritorious services. Cecil was a 55year member of the Warren Lodge #13 F. & A.M., Belvidere, NJ; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest #14; Valley of Allentown Scottish Rite; Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. His life memberships include; American Legion, Post 131, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5193, and the Belvidere Ambulance Corps. Cecil had also been active with the 63rd Division Reunions. Cecil had served the Town of Belvidere on Town Council and as the town�(TM)s Mayor. He had enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, the former Mary Margaret Dowling, who died on October 24, 2003. Surviving are two sons, Daniel J. of Mt. Bethel, PA, and Cecil F. II of Titusville, FL; three grandchildren, Michael, Marc, and Kristin; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Brianna. A son, Michael R.; a grandson, Benjamin; four sisters, Mary, Ruth. Lydia, and Iris; a brother, Ken all have died earlier. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory are requested to the Belvidere Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 128, Belvidere, NJ 07823.
