Earl M. Hoyt, 79, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away Sunday April 8, 2007, at the Robert Wood-Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ. Earl was the owner and operator of Earl Hoyt Excavating, Belvidere for over 40 years before retiring in 1997. Born on January 27, 1928 in Belvidere, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank A. Hoyt and Ruth C. Smith Hoyt. He and his wife, the former Gertrude Melchor were married for 54 years. Earl was a 1947 graduate of Belvidere High School and a member of the Belvidere High School Alumni Association. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and elder of the United Presbyterian Church of Belvidere. He was also a member of the Good Will Fire Company and a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen�(TM)s Association. Earl had been a member and trustee of the Belvidere Cemetery Association. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Gary and his wife Kathy, John and his wife Deborah, and Frank all of Belvidere; a daughter, Linda Strait and her husband Jeffrey of St. Augustine, FL; a sister, Erma Kern of Nazareth, PA; five grandchildren, Steven Strait, Melissa Strait, Ellen Hoyt, Rachel Hoyt, and Matthew Hoyt. Two brothers, Russell and Edward died earlier.
