Obituary of Charles A. Detore

Charles A. "OAKMAN" Detore, 82, of the Brookfield section of White Township, Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 9, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Born on September 22, 1926, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Daniel and Olympia (Gallietto) Detore. Charles had lived in Montclair, NJ for over 44 years, where he earned the nickname and reputation of "OAKMAN". He enjoyed refinishing and collecting furniture, antiques and working on stain glass while also RV traveling with his wife Eva. He loved to spend his weekends at flea markets selling and talking to everyone that came to visit him. As an avid Giants fan, he would never miss the chance to attend their games. Charles was a sergeant with the Essex County Sheriff's Department for over 27 years before retiring. He served in the armed forces during WWII and later became Post Commander of the V.F.W. in Montclair, NJ. Mr. Detore was a parishioner of St. Patrick R.C. Church, Belvidere, NJ. Surviving are his wife of 56 years Eva (nee Giannetti) Detore; two daughters, Deborah Lochli McGrath and her husband Jack and Denise Detore Coombs and her husband Jeff; a son, Daniel Detore and his wife Gail; five grandchildren, Carlene Lochli, Stephen Drappi, Daniel Drappi, Christopher Detore and Jonathan Detore; a brother, Sonny Detore and his wife Florence; a brother-in law, Jerry Selvaggi; countless friends and a large loving family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Selvaggi and a brother Daniel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Compassionate Care Hospice.
