George W. Marshall, 96 of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 01, 2010 at his home. Born in Easton, PA on February 8, 1914, he was the son of the late George A. and Cora Alliger Marshall. George had served in the Navy during WWII with the rank of Lieutenant. He was a graduate of Birmingham Southern University. He was a history teacher for the Newton Public Schools. George along with his family had operated the Marshall's Farm Market, Delaware, NJ since 1920. George was a member of the American Legion, Post # 130, Belvidere, NJ. He formerly served on the Belvidere Town Council and the Shade Tree Commission. He was predeceased by his wife the former Marion Fisher and his former caregiver, Myrtle Lord. Surviving are a daughter, Marianne Saponaro and her husband Dominick; a son, Richard Marshall and his wife Billy both of Delaware, NJ; three grandchildren, George Saponaro and his wife Daniella of Moorestown, NJ, Dominick Saponaro Jr. and his wife Christina Hess-Saponaro of Philadelphia, PA, Tenley Escroffey and her husband Eric of New York; two great-grandsons, George Marshall Saponaro and Charles Gordon Saponaro.
