Obituary of Howard Joseph Vliet

H. Joseph "Joe" Vliet, 75, of White Township, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2019. Born on August 8, 1943 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was the son of the late Howard L. and Ida Vitale Vliet. He grew up in New Village, NJ. Joe was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and a 1965 graduate of Bloomfield College. In September of 1965 he began his teaching career at Frelinghuysen Township Elementary School. He taught at Hope Township Elementary School from 1967 until his retirement in June 2004. Joe was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the NJEA. He had enjoyed fishing locally and bass fishing in Canada, playing pinochle, the NY Mets baseball, and NY Giants football. He was a fan of old time western movies and TV shows. Joe was especially fond of spending time with his family. Surviving are his beloved wife of 45 years, Sandra "Sandy" Beil Vliet; a son, David Jonathan Vliet and his wife Melissa; a grandson, Zachary Christopher Vliet; a sister, Theresa "Terri" Vliet. Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Thursday, April 11, 2019 at MacFadden Funeral Home, 325 Hardwick Street, Belvidere, NJ. Interment will follow in the Harmony Presbyterian Cemetery, Harmony Township, NJ. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice.
